We are honored two have two of the finest judges, as they grace us with their astounding level of experience, knowledge and respect in the understanding and appreciation of the world of art.
J. WILLIAM MEEK – BIO
J. William Meek, III of Naples, Florida, has been an art dealer since he graduated from Florida Southern College in Lakeland in 1972. He was first assistant director of the Harmon Gallery in Naples until he purchased the gallery (established by Foster Harmon of Sarasota in 1964) in 1978. Since 1980 Meek has curated and lent more than 225 exhibitions of his gallery artists to more than 90 museums in 28 states including many exhibitions to this museum. In 1999 he was the first gallery owner awarded the “Distinguished Service to the Arts Award” by Artists Equity of New York and in 2012 he was again the first art gallery owner to be awarded the “Service to the Arts Award” by the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Loretto, PA. in 2011 he earned his Master of Arts degree in Museum Studies from The Johns Hopkins University and last fall he was added to the Board of Directors of the Polk Museum of Art at Florida Southern College in Lakeland. Meek has represented scores of national and regional American artists and owned and directed the oldest gallery sales gallery of American Art in the Southeastern U.S. until three years ago when he turned over the gallery to his two daughters, Kristine Meek and Juliana Meek. He has since been present in the gallery as “director-emeritus”. He has judged art exhibitions from the Von Liebig Art Center in Naples to the Quincy Art Center in Illinois.
SHERRY ROHL – BIO
Sherry Rohl grew up in the midwest and moved to Ft. Myers, FL after attending the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Art and Architecture. Her interests include figurative as well as conceptual art in all mediums. Although the primary focus of her art practice has been drawing and painting, she has worked in assemblage, printmaking, made art with small format laser copiers, and has created installations.
Sherry’s work has won awards and been included in exhibitions at the Orlando Museum of Art, Florida Museum of Art, Deland, FL., Naples Museum
of Art, Boca Raton Museum of Art, Florida Gulf Coast University and other venues. She has received grants from he Rauschenberg Scholarship
fund and the City of Fort Myers, and purchase awards that include the Portable Works Collection, City of Tampa, City of Fort Myer’s Art in Public Places collection, Florida Museum of Art, Deland FL., Holland Knight of Tampa, FL.
Some of Sherry’s experiences in the arts include portfolio judge for Cypress Lake Center for the Arts, Florida Gulf Coast University senior projects assessor, judge for the annual Sancap Art Show, Sanibel, Art on Fifth, Naples, ArtFest, Fort Myers, FL to name a few. As a member of Lee Alliance for the Art’s exhibition committee she curated and installed exhibits in the center’s galleries for several years. She served on selection committees for art in public places projects for Florida Power and Light and Sydney & Berne Davis Art Center, and for Florida Gulf Coast University Fort Myers, FL.
Sherry continues making art at her studios in upstate N.Y. and Fort Myers, FL.
